my theory is that lady dimitrescu left the instructions for the maiden herself. the whole escape sequence was super sus to me, especially with the convenient holes/tunnels, eye ring left in the glass, etc., but it could just be vIdEo gAmE LoGic. i feel like the daughter we encountered could have pursued us more aggressively too, and we hear her say "i'm watching you." also, why would whoever left the note write it in riddles rather than just telling her what to do? was it a test? when you open the final door, lady d just happens to be waiting outside, and she doesn't seem at all perturbed that you've escaped. and why stab us in the face, wasting all that blood? i think it's possible that she was going to make the maiden into one of her "daughters," bc we know with res evil "science" regenerating her face wouldn't be terribly difficult. i think this was implied by the note of the "candidates" and "rejects." only problem is that the three daughters share a character model (and a voice actress) so we can assume they're clones. unless they're planning to alter the maiden's dna somehow? about the tyrant thing: we know she's been around since the 1500s, and in one of the trailers we see a plaque with four family crests on it, including hers, and an insignia in the middle that resembles umbrella's. so i think these families stumbled onto the secret of immortality a long time ago, and umbrella has been trying to emulate them. or something. anyway i haven't seen my "it was all a setup" theory floating around so i thought i'd share it here :) thanks for the video! very thorough. i told my sister about my theory over the phone and i felt like a maniac with a pinboard of a bunch of photos connected by red string.
I have a ps5, but I literally was smart and went to playstation and pre ordered it. It's surprising how many people are salty about NOT doing that. Kinda wild idea, but the secret numbers you found were 231 and when in the room behind the door requiring the red eyeball you can find a drawing of 3 skulls, maybe interacting with them in that order could do something? I wouldn't know but that's the only thing my mind went to when I saw the skulls and knowing the number. Didn't see anyone else mention it so I wanted to see if anyone thought of this too
Fun fact- if you go back down to the dungeon after the vampire lady starts chasing you when you get the key, then the body that you get the bolt cutters from will be in a different position! Edit: nevermind, I’m stupid and didn’t realize that the dead body is in that position after you get the lock pick.
Don’t ask me why, but I love the bolt cutters and keys getting used in these games, because of them being scanned in, they just look so photo realistic. I have to assume that using a character to perform the action wouldn’t look as good (seeing their hands operate it).
I like to think some of the "reused assets" are done on purpose, to keep a connection between games, and just kind of a nostalgia thing, even though RE7 v RE8 is only a few years apart.
Wish I had the gear to play this... Two things I would try; First, crouching the whole way to see if that has an effect on you being seen... Second, trigger the key but don't pick it up, see if that changes anything... Resident Evil 7 had many steps to trigger new events... Second demo coming in the spring, hope it's for ps4 as well and an add on to this demo like they did with RE7 demo...
We did things like never pick up the necklace, never pick up the key, keep the eye in the ring. I did about 5 hours straight. I actually can't remember if you can even crouch in the demo, I don't think you can, I think the tunnels you pressed X and that made the game crouch but only in the tunnels. My PS5 comes in on March 3rd. So I'll revisit the demo then and try some things.
It looks / feels like Ethan's time. I think they already had the levels and didn't want to make them old, but wanted to throw in a pre-story element. But who knows. I'm excited to see if these ladies are 100 years old or new.

Yeah, usually there is a tie in to make people want to buy the exclusive system. But you can't even buy a PS5 so it makes no sense. I see what they are trying, to make it so unobtainable that it generates hype, but it really pissed people off. They claim there is a real demo coming to all systems and this was just a graphics display.
